Human beings have tons of goals and dreams to fulfill as they grow up. But we have one common goal: all dream of having their own home and their children playing all around. A person spends most of their adulthood gaining monetary assets to give their tangible assets to their younger generations all the comfort they can in this universe. But tragedy occurs when a person spends all their life spending their time and money for those who consider them a burden once they are old enough, earning and living an independent life. That’s when people consider the option of leaving their parents away to a separate place, to a separate living.
Human being is a social animal, and when your very own disowns you at an age, you can’t bear your weight. You feel used. You are hurt. The problem occurs only when children start feeling like they are earning, gaining pride and ego. And hence they get uneasy and irritated, even if their parents point them out. Only parents are the ones in this whole universe alive, who always think the best for their children. That being pointed out at the age of adulthood leads to forcing parents to leave their children and get them admitted to nursing homes.
One of our NGO’s members, Aryaman, always believed that senior citizens are treasures, box brimming with knowledge and experiences. So why not we go to nursing homes keeping in mind to get nothing in return except their blessings in wholesale. We started visiting nursing homes, meeting people there, learning things we could have taken years to learn. Spending time listening to them, singing with them, making them dance and moving their body a little uplifting their mood. All the old age people have one thing in common, and they wish that their children and grandchildren spend time with them.
Key Features :
• In our visits to nursing homes, we focus on learning from them from their life experiences.
• To lighten up their moods, we insist them on singing a song and dancing to their once favourite songs.
• We play different games possible at their convenience and present them with rewards such as all-time best-selling books of their time or a pack of refreshments.
• We bring in refreshment packs to make them feel unique and cared for. Accompanied with good old talks.
• At last, we always laugh out loud in sessions in which we laugh like no one is watching. The more we laugh, the lighter we feel.
• We sit in the middle of all the senior citizens sitting around in a circle and turn, listening to the story they narrate, which inspires us at the age of being an adult.
• Last, but not least, we have Photo sessions, in which we pose with them and have group photos together with all the lovely people we have around us.
In the 90-120 minutes session of HLCO volunteers with the old age people, we try to create memories and make them feel more of life instead of just taking a breath and surviving.
